DPD Ireland Sortation Hub
In 2006 DPD Ireland invested €18.5million in a new sortation hub and a logistics and fulfilment
warehouse to cater for growing parcel volumes. The 66,000sq ft fully-automated facility has allowed us to improve and build on our existing service portfolio, taking into account additional flexibility and room for expansion in the future.
The 'POSISORTER' system has the capacity to sort up to 7,000 parcels every hour.
So how does the system work? The parcels are unloaded from linehaul vehicles once they arrive at the DPD Ireland sortation hub. All parcels are placed onto the conveyor system and are scanned at the start of their journey. Every parcel has a barcoded label so the system now knows the exact destination of each parcel. Parcels then travel around the conveyors. When the parcels approach the chutes for each delivery depot, the ‘shoes’ or guides direct the parcels down the correct chutes to ensure they then make their way to the right destination depot in our network, and onward to their delivery addresses.
